Lectio Divina – Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (November 8th) – Cycle A

PURPOSE OF THIS SCRIPTURE READING – Develop a personal relationship with Jesus through the Word of God with the understanding that the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us of all Jesus said and did. Psalm 32:8 tells us, “I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.”

  1. Say the opening prayer.
  2. Read the passage slowly three times as though Jesus were talking to you.
  3. Converse with Jesus, asking questions and listening to Him.

Matthew 25:1-13   Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were foolish and five were wise.  The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.  Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.  The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise ones replied, ‘No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him.  Then the door was locked. SIXTH DAY READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

REVELATION 7:2-4, 9-14

This reading shows John is seeing a vision of the last terrible day and in particular the great tribulation which is to come. During the tribulation there will be a final assault by all the forces of evil and a final devastation of the earth. But before this time of horror and devastation comes, the faithful are to be sealed with the great seal of God so they may survive it. It is not that they escape from experiencing it, but that they may survive it.

A seal on a scroll identified and protected its contents. God places his great seal on his followers, identifying them as his own and guaranteeing his protection over their souls. This is why we have the Sacrament of Baptism, and it shows how valuable we are to him. Our physical bodies may be beaten or even destroyed, but nothing can harm the souls of those marked by God.

We see the seal of God that is placed on the forehead of the believers is the exact opposite of the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:6). These two marks place the people in two very distinct categories. There are those owned by God and those owned by Satan. Satan is always trying to imitate the great works of God.

The number of believers in today’s passage symbolizes completeness. All God’s followers will be brought safely to him. You will always be protected from spiritual harm when Jesus is Lord and master of your life and soul, and not even death can separate his love from you (Romans 8:39).

 

1 JOHN 3:1-3

As believers, our self-worth is based on God’s love for us and that he calls us his children. To belong and to be loved is the deepest need there is in a human being. The numbers in the mental hospitals and prisons would be drastically reduced if the people in those places really had a good self-image.

We are God’s children now, not just sometime in the distant future.  We are children of the king,  and we are heirs to his kingdom of heaven. We have been adopted into God’s family through the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus. To be called a child of God is a great privilege, and yet, we are not just called children of God; we are the children of God.  By nature a man is a creature of God, but it is by grace that he becomes a child of God.

The Old Testament tells us that the Israelites are the covenant people of God. In the New Testament, by a deliberate act of adoption on the part of God, the children enter into his family. We become his children in the intimate and loving sense of the term only by an act of God’s initiating grace and the response of their own hearts in the Sacrament of Baptism. When we become children of God, our life has only just begun. We will continue to grow in the image and likeness of God by following the teachings and examples of Jesus Christ. We can do this through the power of the Holy Spirit and the loving guidance of the Catholic Church.  One day you will be face to face with “ABBA,” your heavenly Father and your Loving Savior Jesus Christ, and what a wonderful joy it will be when he says to you, “Welcome, my obedient, loving child.”

 

MATTHEW 5:1-12

This passage reveals to us the Christian attitude of being. Jesus is not calling his disciples to live in such a way that they will be blessed. he is in fact saying that because they are living in accordance with God’s will, they are already blessed. Blessed means being joyful, and this is a joy that no man or circumstance can take away.

This passage begins with Jesus sitting down as he began to preach. This was a signal that what he was saying was an official message, a message that was to be heard and responded to. When a Jewish rabbi was teaching officially, he sat to teach.  We speak today of a professor’s chair, and the Pope only speaks “Ex cathedra” from his seat.

We hear Jesus say blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God. The Jews had four levels of being poor. The first was just being unable to make ends meet, second was having no power, third was having no influence, and finally, having no earthly resources whatsoever and putting their whole trust in God. The Jews described the word poor as the humble and hapless man who puts his whole trust in God. This really means blessed is someone who realized his own helplessness and put his whole trust in God. He will become completely detached from things and will become completely attached to God. The man who is poor in spirit is the one who has realized that things mean nothing and that God means everything.

Do not think that poverty is a good thing. Jesus would never call living in slums, not having enough to eat, and poor health as being blessed. The poverty which is blessed is the poverty of the spirit.  The kingdom of heaven awaits the one who realizes that God is his real treasure.  Are you that person?

 

Application

The first reading shows that God has placed his great seal on all of his believers through baptism.  The second reading tells us that adoption means being selected and God chose you to be his child. The Gospel reveals that nothing can separate us from God’s love, not even death (Romans 8:39).

This week, let yourself be completely poor in spirit. Let your attachment be only to people, not things. Look in your closet and see what clothes you do not really need and then give them to the poor. Look at your financial picture and see what you can cut out of your spending and give that expense to the poor.

Look at how you spend your time.  Is it mostly for your benefit? Try to see where you can give more time to others in need. Mother Teresa says, “Unless life is lived for others, it is not worthwhile.”  Blessed are you because you are poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3).

SEXTO DIA LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

APOCALIPSIS 7:2-4, 9-14

Esta lectura muestra a Juan teniendo una visión acerca de los terribles últimos dias y en particular, la gran tribulación que está por venir. Durante ésta habrá un asalto final de todas las fuerzas del mal y una destrucción total de la tierra. Pero antes de que llegue este horror y destrucción, los fieles serán sellados con el gran sello de Dios y asi sobrevivirán. No será que escapen de esto, pero sí lo podrán sobrevivir.

Un sello en un pergamino identificaba y protegia su contenido. Dios pone Su gran sello en Sus seguidores identificándolos como suyos, garantizando Su protección a sus almas. Por eso es que tenemos el Sacramento del Bautizmo y eso nos muestra que aprecio nos tiene. Nuestros cuerpos físicos podrán ser apaleados y hasta destruidos pero nada podra dañar las almas de los que sean marcados por Dios.

Vemos el sello de Dios puesto en la frente de los creyentes y es precisamente opuesto a la marca de la bestia (Apocalipsis 13:16). Estas dos marcas ponen a la gente en dos categorias muy diferentes. Están los que pertenecen a Dios y los que pertenecen a Satanás. Satanás está siempre tratando de imitar los grandes hechos de Dios.

El número de creyentes en el pasaje de hoy simbolizan la integridad. Todos los seguidores de Dios serán traidos a El sanos y salvos. Siempre estarás protegido de los daños espirituales cuando Jesús sea el Señor y Dueño de tu vida y de tu alma y ni aun la muerte podrá separar Su amor de ti (Romanos 8:39).

 

1 JUAN 3:1-3

Como creyentes nuestro valor personal está basado en el hecho de que Dios nos ama y nos llama hijos Suyos. El pertenecer y el ser amado es la necesidad mas profunda que tiene un ser humano. El numero de hospitales mentales y prisiones se reduciría drásticamente si la gente que está en esos lugares tuviera realmente una buena imágen de si misma.

Somos hijos de Dios ahora, no en algun tiempo distante en el futuro. Somos los hijos del Rey y herederos de Su reino del cielo. Hemos sido adoptados en la familia de Dios a traves del sacrificio de nuestro Señor Jesus. El ser llamado hijo de Dios es un gran privilegio y no solo somos llamados hijos de Dios; somos Sus hijos verdaderamente. Por naturaleza el hombre es una creatura de Dios, pero es debido a la gracia, que éste se convierte en hijo de Dios.

El Antiguo Testamento nos dice que los Israelitas eran aquéllos con los que Dios habia hecho un pacto. En el Nuevo Testamento por un deliberado acto de adopción de parte de Dios los hijos entraron a ser de Su familia. Nos hacemos hijos Suyos en todo el sentido amoroso e íntimo de la palabra únicamente por un acto de la gracia iniciadora de Dios y por la respuesta de nuestros corazones en el Sacramento del Bautizmo.

Nuestra vida apenas empieza cuando nos volvemos hijos de Dios. Seguiremos creciendo a Su imagen y semejanza cuando sigamos las enseñanzas y el ejemplo de Jesucristo. Podemos hacer esto a traves del poder del Espiritu Santo y la guia amorosa de la Iglesia Católica. Un dia estarás cara a cara con “ABBA,” tu Padre celestial y con tu Amoroso Salvador Jesucristo; que inmensa alegria tendrás cuando El te diga “Bienvenido, mi obediente y amoroso hijo.”

 

MATEO 5:1-12

Este pasaje nos revela la actitud Cristiana de ser. Jesús no llama a Sus discípulos a vivir de tal modo que sean bendecidos. De hecho lo que El dice es que debido a que están viviendo de acuerdo a la voluntad de Dios, ya están benditos. Bendito significa estar alegre y esta es una alegria que ningún hombre o circunstancia puede quitar.

Este pasaje comienza con Jesús sentado cuando empezó a predicar. Esta era una señal de que lo que estaba dando era un mensaje oficial, un mensaje para ser escuchado y responder a él. Cuando los rabinos Judios enseñaban oficialmente, se sentaban a enseñar. Hoy dia hablamos de la cátedra de los profesores y el Papa solo habla “Ex cátedra” cuando está en su silla.

Oimos a Jesús decir benditos o bienaventurados los pobres de espiritu por que de ellos es el reino de Dios. Los Judios tenian cuatro niveles de pobreza. El primero era, ser incapaces de llegar a cubrir sus gastos; el segundo era no tener poder; el tercero no tener influencias y finalmente el cuarto no tener ningun recurso terrenal y poner toda su confianza en Dios. Los Judios describian la palabra pobre como: aquel que era humilde y desamparado y que ponia toda su confianza en Dios. Esto realmente significa que bendito es aquel que se da cuenta de su propio desamparo y pone toda su confianza en Dios. Este se separará de las cosas por completo y se aferrará por completo a Dios. El hombre que es pobre de espiritu es aquel que se ha dado cuenta que las cosas no significan nada y que Dios lo es todo.

No pienses que la pobreza es algo bueno. Jesús nunca diria que, vivir en un tugurio, el no tener lo suficiente para comer, el tener una salud fisica muy pobre, seria estar bendito. La pobreza a la que se refiere es a la pobreza de espíritu. El reino de Dios esta esperando a aquel que se de cuenta que su verdadero tesoro es Dios. ¿Eres tu esa persona?

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura demuestra que Dios ha puesto Su sello real en todos sus creyentes a traves del bautizmo. La segunda lectura nos dice que adopción significa haber sido seleccionado y que Dios te escogió a ti para ser Su hijo. El Evangelio revela que nada puede separarnos del amor de Dios, ni aún la muerte (Romanos 8:39).

Esta semana permítete a ti mismo ser pobre de espíritu. Que no te apegues a las cosas, sino a las personas. Vé en tu ropero y todo aquéllo que realmente no necesitas dálo a los pobres. Fíjate en como están tus finanzas y vé en que puedes ahorrar algunos gastos y dale ese dinero a los pobres.

Fíjate en que gastas tu tiempo. ¿Es en algo que realmente te beneficia? ¿Vé si puedes darle mas tiempo a otros que estan necesitados? La Madre Teresa dice, “A menos que la vida sea vivida por otros, no vale la pena.” Bendito seas porque eres pobre de espíritu (Mateo 5:3)

SEXTO DIA LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

EXODO 22:21-27

La advertencia de Dios a los Israelitas de no tratar mal a los extranjeros, suena fuerte y clara.  Ellos bien recordaban cuando fueron extranjeros en Egipto.  No es fácil llegar a un ambiente nuevo donde une se siente solo y fuera de lugar.  La lectura de hoy nos muestra como la ley hebrea protegía a los pobres y menos afortunados.  Dios nos dice que los pobres los indefensos y los extranjeros son muy especiales para El y no los debemos maltratar.  En la lectura de hoy vemos que el manto era usado como garantía de los préstamos. En la ley hebrea el manto era una de las posesiones más valiosas de los Israelitas. Había mucha gente que solo tenía un manto y lo usaban como cobija, como costal para acarrear cosas, como tapete para sentarse, como promesa para pagar deudas, así como para vestir.

Debemos echar una mirada profunda al modo en que tratamos a los refugiados e inmigrantes que vienen a nuestro país.  Nuestras acciones manifiestan claramente nuestra sensibilidad a sus sufrimientos y serán expresión de como entendemos el amor que Dios les tiene.  Vemos que Dios nos dice muy claramente lo que le ocurrirá a aquellos que traten mal a los pobres, a las viudas y a los huérfanos.  El reto que tenemos hoy es preocuparnos más y disponernos a ayudar de la manera que podamos a aquellos que son menos afortunados que nosotros.

Hoy en día, gran parte de la tragedia de nuestra sociedad se debe a la explotación de los pobres. Podemos ver a nuestro alrededor cuantas viudas, cuantos huérfanos y ancianos tratan desesperadamente de sobrevivir.  En vez de que se les ayude, se les trata de forzar a vivir en casas que no pueden pagar o se les abandona a su suerte, dejándolos sin un techo bajo el cual vivir.  Reciben poco o ningún cuidado médico y hay muchos que no tienen casi nada para darles de comer a sus familias.  Dios nos advierte lo que hará a aquellos que abusen del oprimido.

Tenemos que hacer una llamada de arrepentimiento al corazón de la gente y renovar nuestro pacto con Dios. Debemos mirar a los pobres y oprimidos con los ojos de Jesucristo.  Si volteamos hacía el Señor y buscamos Su voluntad, El nos bendecirá a nosotros y nuestras familias.  Nos bendecirá y nos honrará por amar a Sus pobres.  Recordemos, lo que hagamos al más pequeño de nuestros hermanos se lo hacemos a El (Mateo 25:31-46).

 

1 TESALONICENSES 1:5-10

San Pablo continúa alabando a los Tesalonicenses no solo por su fe y su valentía sino por su estilo de vida cristiano.  Sufrir por su fe no era nada nuevo para San Pablo, y los Tesalonicenses con gusto aceptaron sus sufrimientos a imitación de Pablo y de Cristo, quien murió por ellos.  El espíritu con el cual ellos aceptaron y vivieron su fe fue un ejemplo para otras nuevas comunidades cristianas en Grecia.

La lectura de hoy fue acerca de la gente que cambió de creer en ídolos a creer en el Dios viviente. Hoy, mucho de la religión es retórica (solo palabras) y entre la gente joven hay muchos que lo ven así.  La idolatría esta sin control en muchas naciones y los dioses del dinero, el poder y el placer tienen atados conflictivamente a muchos.

Hay algunos cristianos que todavía viven y defienden sus principios cristianos gracias a Dios; pero son muy pocos esparcidos.  Necesitamos millones de cristianos sinceros, activos, llenos del Espíritu para detener la corriente de materialismo y sentir mundano que tenemos encima.  El hecho de que los cristianos fallen en vivir sus creencias es lo que da pábulo al movimiento anti-Dios.

Veámonos a nosotros mismos y preguntémonos que clase de modelo cristiano soy en mi comunidad. ¿Estoy imitando a Cristo y trayendo a otros hacía El?  ¿Paso tiempo a solas con El en oración y leo Su Palabra?  Si quiero imitarlo, debo hacer esto diariamente.  Hay por ahí quien está cerca de nosotros y que está en busca de la luz y la verdad.  Tú tienes la luz y la verdad.  Somos llamados a dar esa luz al mundo de la oscuridad.  ¿Nos atreveremos a rehusar ayudar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas que están en la oscuridad y arriesgarnos así a perder nuestra salvación eterna?

 

MATEO 22:34-40

Esta lectura del evangelio revela las intenciones de los fariseos de tratar de pescar a Jesús en algún error político o legal.  Los fariseos y saduceos tenían muchas disputas entre ellos acerca de esta cuestión. Había más de 600 leyes y trataban constantemente de dilucidar cuales eran las mas importantes.

A Jesús le preguntaron cual era el mandamiento más grande en la ley de Moisés.  Jesús cita el versículo 6:5 del Deuteronomio y el 19:18 del Levítico.  Guardando estos dos mandamientos la persona cumple toda la Ley.  Así se resumen los diez mandamientos.  Jesús nos hace hincapié en que si realmente amamos a Dios y a nuestro prójimo no tendremos gran dificultad en guardar los mandamientos.  Jesús nos dice que es lo que podemos hacer en vez de preocuparnos de lo que no podemos hacer.  Guardando Sus mandamientos demostramos cuanto amamos a Dios.  Lo amamos con nuestra mente, nuestro corazón, nuestra alma y nuestro cuerpo.

Hoy el mundo está tratando persistentemente de ser su propia conciencia y su propio código de conducta.  Se nos dice en las Escrituras que llenando nuestras mentes con pensamientos que son del Señor es la manera como lo amamos con nuestras mentes (Filipenses 4:8).  Sabemos que el Espíritu del Señor dentro de nosotros es más grande que el espíritu que está en el mundo (1 Juan 4:4).  Esto es amar a Dios y a nuestro prójimo con todas nuestras fuerzas y esta fuerza es el Espíritu Santo.

Se nos llama a amar a Dios con todo nuestro corazón y es con el corazón de Jesús que amamos a los demás así como El nos ha amado (Juan 13:34).  No podemos decir que amamos a Dios y odiamos a nuestro prójimo; Si lo hacemos entonces somos mentirosos (1 Juan 3:10).  Jesús resume todo en que amemos a los otros del modo en que El nos ama cuando dice, “Cualquier cosa que hagas al más pequeño de mis hermanos o hermanas, me lo haces a mi.”  (Mateo 25:31-46)

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura muestra el intenso amor de Dios para con los huérfanos, viudas y los oprimidos. La segunda lectura revela que el meollo del Cristianismo está en el testimonio de los creyentes.  El Evangelio nos trae el poder de amar a Dios y a nuestro prójimo plenamente.

Esta semana antes de que digas algo pregúntate a ti mismo, ¿qué diría Jesús en esta situación?  Antes de que hagas algo pregúntate, ¿qué haría Dios en ésta situación?  Dios es amor y debemos tratar de imitarlo en lo que decimos y hacemos.  Entonces no solo amaremos y obedeceremos Sus mandamientos sino que también seremos capaces de amar a los demás como El nos ha amado.

SIXTH DAY READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

EXODUS 22:20-26

God’s warning to the Israelites not to treat strangers unfairly comes through loud and clear. They well remember that they themselves were once strangers in Egypt. It is not easy coming to a new environment where you feel alone and out of place. Today’s reading shows how the Hebrew law protected the poor and less fortunate. God tells us that the poor, the powerless, and the aliens are very special to him, and they are not to be mistreated. In today’s reading we see a cloak being used as collateral for a loan. In Hebrew law cloaks were one of an Israelite’s most valued possessions. Most people owned only one and it was used as a blanket, a sack to carry things, a place to sit, and a pledge for a debt, as well as for clothing.

We need to take a long look at the way we treat refugees and immigrants who come into our country. Our sensitivity to their struggles and our expression of God’s love to them are clearly stated by our actions. We see that God is very clear on what happens to those who mistreat the poor, the widows, and the orphans. The challenge upon us today is to turn our concern and resources to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Much of the tragedy in our society today is the exploitation of the poor. We need only look around and we can see widows, orphans and elderly trying desperately to survive. Instead of being helped, many are forced into homelessness or into homes they cannot afford. They receive little or no health care, and many have little food available to them and their families. God warns us very clearly what he will do to those who abuse and oppress them.

A call to repentance needs to come into the hearts of the people, and a renewal of our covenant with God has to take place. We need to look at the poor and oppressed with the eyes of Jesus Christ. If we turn to the Lord and seek his will, he will bless us and our families. He will bless and honor us for loving his poor. Remember, what we do to the least of our people, we do unto him (Matthew 25:31-46).

 

1 THESSALONIANS 1:5-10

St. Paul continues to praise the Thessalonians, not only for their faith and courage, but for their Christian lifestyle. Suffering for his faith was not new to St. Paul, and the Thessalonians gladly accepted their sufferings in imitation of Paul and Christ, who had died for them. The spirit with which they accepted and lived the faith was an example to other young Christian communities in Greece.

Today’s reading was about people who turned from believing in idols to belief in the living God. Today much of religion is rhetoric and young people see right through it. Idolatry is out of control in many nations, and the gods of money, power, and pleasure have many people struggling in bondage.

There are some Christians who still live by and stand up for their Christian principles, thank God; but they are too few and far between. We need millions of sincere, active, spirit-filled Christians to stem the flood of materialism and worldliness which is upon us. The failure of Christians to live out their beliefs is what gives the anti-God movement its fuel.

We need to look at ourselves and ask what kind of Christian role model we are in our community. Am I imitating Christ and bringing others to him? Do I spend time alone with him in prayer and reading his Word? In order to be an imitator of him, I must do these things daily. There are those around us who are looking for the light and the truth. We have that light and truth. We are called to give that light to the world of darkness. Do we dare refuse to help our brothers and sisters who are in darkness and risk losing our own eternal salvation?

 

MATTHEW 22:34-40

This Gospel reading seems to reveal the intentions of the Pharisees trying to catch Jesus in some legalistic or political error. The Pharisees and Sadducees had many disputes among themselves about this question. There were over 600 laws and they often tried to ascertain which were the more important ones.

Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment in the law of Moses. Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18. By keeping these two commandments a person keeps all of the Law. They summarized the ten commandments. Yet, we see Jesus telling them and us that if we really love God and our neighbor, we will keep the commandments without any great problem. Jesus tells us what we can do, rather than to worry about what we can not do. We show how much we love God by keeping his commandments. We love God with our mind and heart, soul and body.

Today the world is trying to keep up with being it’s own conscience and it’s own code of conduct. We are told in Scripture that filling our minds with thoughts that are of the Lord is how we love the Lord with our minds (Phil. 4:8). We know that the Spirit of the Lord within us is greater than the spirit that is in the world (1 John 4:4). This is loving God and our neighbor with all of our strength, and that strength is the Holy Spirit.

We are called to love God with all of our heart, and it is with the heart of Jesus that we love others as he has loved us (John 13:34). We can not say we love God and hate our neighbor; if we do then we are liars (1 John 3:20). Jesus sums it all up on how to love others the way he loves us when he says, “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do unto me” (Matthew 25:31-46).

 

Application

The first reading shows God’s intense love for orphans, widows, and the oppressed. The second reading reveals that the core of Christianity is in the witness of its believers. The Gospel brings home the power of loving God and neighbor completely.

This week, before you speak, ask yourself what would Jesus say in this situation. Before you do anything, ask yourself what would Jesus do in this situation. God is love and we should try imitating him in what we say and do. Then we will be not only loving and obedient to his commandments but also capable of loving others as he has loved us.

They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. SEXTO DIA LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

ISAIAS 45:1, 4-6

Este es el único lugar en la Biblia en que un gobernante pagano es llamado “ungido”.  Dios es el poder sobre todos los poderes y El unge a quien El escoge para sus misiones especiales.  El reino de Ciro era el más grande del mundo conocido entonces.  Dios escogió a Ciro como instrumento de Su plan.  Ciro iba a permitir que la ciudad de Dios, Jerusalén, fuera reconstruida, y el iba a dar libertad a los exiliados sin esperar nada a cambio.  Hubo muy pocos reyes de Israel o Judá que hayan hecho tanto por el pueblo de Dios como hizo Ciro.

Esta es una demostración tremenda de la soberanía de Dios sobre todos los hombres.  El escogió a este rey pagano para que fuera Su instrumento para devolver al pueblo elegido de Dios a su patria.  Ciro era un discípulo del dios pagano Del Marduk.  Esta religión era muy activa en la prostitución y sacrificios de niños.  Practicaban su culto en Babilonia y el nombre del dios significaba que era dios del clima, de la guerra y del sol.

El titulo de “el ungido” se usaba para los sacerdotes, los profetas y los Reyes del Antiguo Testamento.  Cada Cristiano es ungido como sacerdote, profeta y rey en el sacramento del Bautismo. Debemos preguntarnos que hemos hecho con nuestro don de unción.  ¿Ven otras personas en ti que sacrificas tus deseos personales por ayudar a los demás?  ¿Asistes regularmente a la iglesia y recibes la Sagrada Eucaristía con regularidad?  ¿Proclamas la Palabra Divina de Dios en tu familia, en la escuela, en el trabajo, como profeta que eres?  ¿Gobiernas, en tu hogar, tu escuela, tu trabajo, como un rey que tiene compasión, es justo y muy misericordioso?

Volvemos a la pregunta de por que Dios unge a alguien como Ciro.  Ciro era un pagano, y el Señor no solo lo ungió, sino que también lo armó.  El Señor puso naciones bajo el poder de Ciro y le abrió muchas puertas y como resultado, Ciro llegó a ser muy popular.  El Señor ha mostrado por medio de Ciro que nada está fuera del alcance de Su poder.

Nadie puede negar el poder de Dios.  Tu nombre esta grabado en la palma de Su mano (Isaías 45:15) y El trabajará a través de ti, si tú se lo permites.  Ciro ni siquiera sabía quien era Dios.  La burra de Balaam si sabía quien era El y finalmente aún Balaam entendió el mensaje: “No hay nadie más fuera de mí,” dijo el Señor (Números 22:28-35).

¿Ven otras personas el poder de Dios trabajando en ti?  ¿Ves tú el poder de Dios trabajando en tu vida?  Detente ahora y pídele que te permita experimentar Su amor y Su ternura.  Dios es nuestra fortaleza, nuestro refugio y nuestra roca (Salmo 91).

 

1 TESALONICENSES 1:1-5

Tesalónica fue donde Pablo fundó la primera iglesia cristiana en Grecia, hacía el año 50 D.C.  Sin embargo, Pablo tuvo que salir de prisa porque su vida y la de sus compañeros estaban en peligro (Hechos 17:1-10).  Posteriormente Pablo los visitó brevemente y los nuevos creyentes estaban creciendo rápidamente, firmes en su nueva fe.  Pablo les escribió esta carta para responder algunas preguntas que ellos tenían y los felicitó por su fidelidad a la Buena Nueva.  Timoteo y Silvano fueron de gran ayuda para Pablo en el establecimiento de la nueva iglesia.

Tesalónica era la capital de Macedonia y una de las ciudades más ricas de la región.  Se le permitía tener su propio gobierno y esta autonomía atrajo muchas religiones paganas e influencias culturales que seriamente desafiaban la fe de los nuevos cristianos del lugar.  La persecución solo logró que los creyentes se reafirmaran más en su fe.

El poder del Espíritu Santo cambia a las personas cuando estas creen en la Palabra Sagrada de Dios. Cuando tú les hablas a otros sobre Jesús, debes depender del Espíritu Santo para que abra sus ojos y los convenza de que necesitan la salvación.  Esto es lo que paso en Tesalónica.  Debes recordarlo, Su poder cambia a las personas, no nuestra inteligencia o persuasión.  Sin el trabajo del Espíritu Santo, nuestras palabras no tienen sentido.

La Buena Nueva produjo un efecto poderoso en los Tesalonicenses.  Siempre y donde quiera que se escucha y se obedece la palabra de Dios, las vidas cambian.  Debes recordar que el Cristianismo es algo más que una colección de hechos interesantes; es el poder de Dios para la salvación de todo aquel que creé.  Pablo les dijo que nuestras propias vidas eran pruebas adicionales (vs.5).  Podían ver que Pablo, Timoteo y Silvano estaban predicando la verdad, porque la estaban viviendo.  ¿Confirma o contradice tu vida lo que tú dices que crees?

 

MATEO 22:15-21

Los Fariseos eran una secta religiosa de Judíos que trataban de conservar la ley mosaica en todas sus interpretaciones estrictas.  Tenían muchos seguidores entre la elite y se mantenían estrictamente apartados de la gente ordinaria.  Ellos se opusieron a Cristo casi desde el comienzo de su predicación pública porque El vino a “llamar a los pecadores” y El se asociaba con ellos libremente.

Jesús llama “hipócritas” a los Fariseos porque aunque por fuera pretendían ser estrictamente religiosos, sin embargo en su corazón carecían de una verdadera religiosidad, de amor por Dios y por el prójimo y no tenían humildad.  Jesús claramente les dice a ellos y a nosotros en su respuesta de “Dar al César lo que es del César y a Dios lo que corresponde a Dios,” que el gobierno tiene el derecho de esperar obediencia y cooperación en todo lo concerniente al bienestar material del estado, con tal que el bienestar espiritual de los miembros no sea impedido por el gobierno.  Aquí es donde abunda la hipocresía sobre la que habla Jesús.  Muchas personas tratan de encontrar formas de hacer trampa al gobierno para no pagar los impuestos correspondientes.  Estas personas justifican sus actos con toda clase de excusas pretendiendo que el gobierno no necesita el dinero.

Jesús nos dice que debemos ser veraces en todos los asuntos de nuestras vidas.  Debemos ser veraces en nuestras relaciones familiares, en nuestro trabajo y con nuestro gobierno.  Hacer trampa en los impuestos es una forma muy común de hipocresía.  Jesús también les dice a los Fariseos que poner la ley sobre el bien común del pueblo es ser hipócrita.  Jesús sabía bien que ellos trataban de atraparlo, sin embargo, El no se apartó de su convicción de ser veraz.  Una persona hipócrita es falsa y se basa en sus mentiras. Aparentemente es una “buena persona” pero está llena de intenciones pecaminosas.  Jesús verdaderamente se expresó con dureza en contra de los hipócritas.

Tú y yo tenemos que escoger entre las leyes de Dios o las leyes de los hombres (Actos 5:29). Debemos demostrar que nuestra forma de vivir corresponde a lo que creemos.  Nuestro ejemplo de amar a Dios y amar a nuestro prójimo como a nosotros mismos, será la fuerza de todas las naciones.

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura de esta semana enseña que Dios puede usar a cualquier persona para llevar a cabo Su plan en bien de Su pueblo.  La segunda lectura indica que se requiere una fe fuerte para soportar la persecución y la muerte.  El Evangelio nos revela que Jesús vino por el enfermo, el abandonado y el oprimido y El puso en su lugar a los hipócritas con sus trampas.

Esta semana participa en algún proyecto que afecte tu comunidad, por ejemplo, la cruzada contra el aborto.  Invita a alguien de tu escuela o tu trabajo a que vaya contigo.  Comparte tus sentimientos con alguien cercano a ti y dile de los descubrimientos que has hecho al trabajar en ese proyecto.
