SEXTO DIA           LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO

 

HECHOS 7:55-60

Los líderes Judíos estaban furiosos por las acusasiones que Esteban les había hecho de que eran los asesinos de los profetas y los destructores de las leyes de Dios. Y también los acusa de haber asesinado al mismo Mesías. Las palabras de Esteban de decir que veía a Jesús parado a la derecha de Dios daban apoyo a lo que Jesús clamaba y enfurecía a los líderes Judíos. En su sentido de culpa y furia no iban a tolerar las palabras de Esteban así que lo atacaron y lo mataron.

Hoy en día la gente probablemente no nos mate por ser testigos de Cristo pero si nos dirán que no quieren oir la verdad y tratarán de silenciarnos constantemente. En muchos lugares los que tratan de proteger los derechos de los niños que no han nacido y que están contra el aborto son ridiculizados, golpeados y mandados a la cárcel. Estos Cristianos estan respondiendo de un modo que no es quedarse sin hacer nada mientras seres inocentes son asesinados (Prover. 24:11). Honra constantemente a Dios en tus palabras, tu adoración y tus acciones. Quizá sepas lo que es que la gente rechaze tu mensaje, pero habrá alguien que se vuelva hacía Cristo y tu esfuerzo será más notable de lo que te imaginas.

Pablo es presentado en la lectura de hoy (versículo 58) como un asesino y luego lo vemos como un apóstol del Señor, cambiado y arrepentido. Esto nos habla de que el poder del amor de Dios puede cambiar a cualquiera que este abierto a su llamado. Pablo tenía grandes cualidades para predicar a los Judíos ya que él también una vez se opuso a Jesucristo y a sus seguidores Cristianos. El entendió la oposición y por tanto fue capaz de sentir compasión y perdonar, así como también fue capaz de darles ánimos para ser libres en Cristo. Pablo nunca olvidó el día en que escuchó en silencio y dejó que las malas acciones de esos hombres destruyeran la vida de un hombre muy santo. El supo que ya nunca podría volver a guardar silencio y pasó el resto de su vida predicando las buenas nuevas de Jesucristo, Señor y Salvador del mundo entero. Nosotros necesitamos hablar en nombre de Jesús y dejar que la gente vea en nosotros la santidad de San Esteban.

 

APOCALIPSIS 22:12-14, 16-17, 20

               El Cristo Resucitado viene y hace dos reclamos poderosos, uno que habrá un juicio final, y que esté no sera únicamente para los incrédulos. El destino eterno de un Cristiano verdaderamente creyente está seguro, pero Jesús verá como manejaron los dones, oportunidades y responsabilidades que tuvieron durante su vida. El nos dice que El es completo. No hay empiezo ni final en su existencia. Cristo nos dice que El es la fuente y que no necesita nada más. El es el alfa y la omega, el principio y el fin. Los Judíos decían que si Dios era el principio, no había recibido Su poder de alguien más y que ya que era el medio, no había compartido Su poder con nadie y siendo el fin nunca había dado Su poder a nadie más.

Aquellos que lavaron sus ropas en la sangre de Cristo fueron purificados y tienen el derecho de entrar a la “ciudad de Dios” o sea “la Nueva Jerusalén”. Jesús a traves de Su cruz ha dado la gracia por la cual el hombre puede ser perdonado; pero el hombre debe tener hambre y sed por esa gracia y luego tiene que usarla. Aquellos que entran en la “Ciudad Santa” o cielo son los que han aceptado a Jesús como su Señor. En la nueva y eterna vida, la gente comerá del árbol de la vida ya que sus pecados han sido borrados por la muerte y resurrección de Cristo y por tanto vivirán por siempre.

Si nosotros hemos confesado nuestros pecados, nos hemos arrepentido y hemos aceptado a Jesucristo como nuestro Señor y Salvador personal, tendremos el derecho de comer de éste árbol. La iglesia ha sido la guardiana fiel que nos ha protegido, enseñádonos acerca de Jesucristo y nos lo ha presentado en sacramento y palabra. La iglesia en el nombre de Jesús a traves del poder del Espíritu Santo trae gloria al Padre extendiendo la invitación a todo el mundo para que venga a Jesús.

 

JUAN 17:20-26

Jesús completa Su oración al Padre. Empieza pidiéndole que lo glorifigue a El para que El pueda glorificar al Padre. Le dice a Su Padre que hizo todo lo que El le pidió y ahora es tiempo de que llegue su gloria. Su gloria será la de la cruz; no era su voluntad, pero El obedece la voluntad de Su Padre aún muriendo en la cruz (Filipenses 2:2-11). Luego ruega por Sus discípulos y le pide a Dios que los mantenga fuertes en su fe.

En el pasaje de hoy Jesús está rogando por nosotros. En esta oración vemos Su confianza tanto en Su Padre como en los que serán seguidores de Cristo. El supo que en un tiempo corto iba a ser traicionado, arrestado y asesinado, y aún así tiene todavía la confianza de que Sus discípulos llevarán Su nombre. El oraba por la nueva iglesia que vendría. Oró por la unidad de corazón, no de administración, no por unidad de organización eclesiástica. El oró por la unidad de relaciones personales.

Hemos visto que la unidad entre Jesús y Su Padre era de amor y obediencia. Jesús ruega por una unidad basada en las relaciones de corazón a corazón no de denominación a denominación. Jesús ora para que exista una unidad en la que la gente se ame entre si porque El los ha amado. Los Cristianos quizá nunca organicen su iglesia todos de la misma manera, pero la unidad Cristiana sobrepasa todas las diferencias debido a que une a la gente en el amor. Es natural que la gente se aparte y después se reúna.  Es más natural para la gente de separarse y luego juntarse.  Pero la unidad verdadera entre todos los Cristianos requerirá una solución “supernatural,” y esa solución es amarse unos a otros como Jesús nos ha amado.

 

Aplicación

En la primera lectura vemos que la maldad únicamente puede tener éxito cuando los hombres buenos no hacen nada. En la segunda lectura vemos que Jesús es el principio, el medio y el final. El Evangelio muestra que la unidad no tiene que significar uniformidad.

Esta semana trae unidad a tu propio corazón rogando a Dios que cambie tus actitudes hacía otros que no creen y practican su fe en Dios como tú. Luego mira a tu alrededor y vé quienes son los que no tienen la misma fe que tú tienes y muéstrales tu respeto, tu amabilidad, tu generosidad y tu tolerancia. Luego ámalos como Jesús te ama a tí. Te sorprenderás del poder y el resultado de atestiguar por Cristo.

SIXTH DAY           READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

ACTS 7:55-60

The Jewish leaders were enraged by Stephen’s accusation that they were murderers of the prophets and destroyers of God’s laws. He accused them of even murdering the Messiah.  Stephen’s words of seeing Jesus standing at God’s right hand supported Jesus’ claim and angered the Jewish leaders.  In their guilt and rage, they would not tolerate Stephen’s words, so they mobbed him and killed him.

Today people may not kill us for witnessing about Christ, but they will let us know they do not want to hear the truth and will often try to silence us.   In many lands, those who try to protect the rights of the unborn children against abortion are ridiculed, beaten, and sent to jail.  These Christians are responding by not standing by and doing nothing while innocents are being slaughtered (Proverbs 24:11).  Keep honoring God in your words, your worship and in your actions. You may experience the rejection of many people to your message, but some will turn to Christ and your effort will be noticed more than you realize.

Paul is introduced into today’s reading (verse 58) as a murderer and then later we see him as a changed, repentant apostle of the Lord. This tells us that the power of God’s love can change anyone who is open to his call. Paul was tremendously qualified to preach to the Jews because he too had once opposed Jesus Christ and his Christian followers. He understood the opposition and was, therefore, able to be compassionate and forgiving, as well as encouraging them to become free in Christ. Paul never forgot that day when he watched in silence and let the evil actions of those men destroy the life of a very holy man. He knew that he could never be silent again, and he spent the rest of his life preaching the good news of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior of the whole world. We need to speak out in Jesus’ name and let people see in us the holiness of St. Stephen.

 

REVELATION 22:12-14, 16-17, 20

The Risen Christ is coming, and he makes two powerful claims, that there will be a final judgment and this will not be confined to non-believers. The eternal destiny of a true Christian believer is secure, but Jesus will look at how they handled gifts, opportunities, and responsibilities in their lifetime. He then tells us that he is complete. There is no beginning or end to his existence. Christ is telling us that he is the source and he needs nothing else. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.  The Jews said that since God was the beginning, he received his power from no one; since he was the middle, he shared his power with no one; and since he was the end, he never handed his power over to anyone.

Those who washed their robes in the blood of Christ were purified and have the right of entry into the “City of God” or the “New Jerusalem.”  Jesus, through his cross, has provided that grace by which man can be forgiven; but man has to hunger and thirst for that grace, and then he has to make use of that grace. Those who enter into the “Holy City” or heaven are the ones who have accepted Jesus as Lord. In the new and eternal life, people will eat from the tree of life because their sins have been removed by Christ’s death and resurrection and they will live forever.

If we have confessed our sins, repented, and accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we will have the right to eat from this tree.  The church has been the faithful guardian that has protected us, taught us about Jesus Christ, and has presented him to us in sacrament and word.  The church, in the name of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit brings glory to God the Father by extending the invitation to the whole world to come to Jesus.

 

JOHN 17:20-26

Jesus completes his prayer to the Father. He began by asking his Father to glorify him so that he may glorify the Father. He told his Father that he did everything that was asked of him, and now the hour of glory had come. His glory would be the cross; it was not his will but he obeyed his Father’s will even unto death on a cross (Phil. 2:2-11). Then he prayed for his disciples and asked God to keep them strong in their faith.

In today’s passage Jesus is praying for us. In this prayer, we see his confidence both in his Father and for those who are going to be Christ-followers. He knew that in a very short time he was going to be betrayed, arrested and killed, and he still was confident that his disciples would carry on his name. He was praying for the new church to come. He prayed for a unity of heart, not administration, not a unity of ecclesiastical organization. He prayed for a unity of personal relationships.

We have seen the unity between Jesus and his Father was love and obedience. Jesus prayed for a unity based on the relationships of heart to heart, not denomination to denomination. Jesus prayed that a unity would exist in which people loved each other because they loved him.  Christian unity overcomes all differences because it joins people together in love. It is more natural for people to be divided then united.  It is more natural for people to fly apart then to come together. But real unity between all Christians would require a “supernatural” solution, and that solution is loving one another as Jesus has loved us.

 

Application

In the first reading we see that evil can only succeed when good men do nothing. In the second reading we see Jesus is the beginning, middle and the end. The Gospel shows unity does not have to mean uniformity.

This week, bring unity into your own heart by praying that God will change your attitude toward others who do not believe and practice their faith in God like you. Then look around you and see who is not of the same faith as you, and then let them experience your respect, your kindness, and your generosity.  Then love them just as Jesus loves you. You will be amazed at the power and result of your witness of Christ.

Lectio Divina – The Ascension of the Lord (June 2nd) – Cycle C

PURPOSE OF THIS SCRIPTURE READING – Develop a personal relationship with Jesus through the Word of God with the understanding that the Holy Spirit will teach and remind us of all Jesus said and did. Psalm 32:8 tells us, “I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel and watch over you.”

OPEN WITH THE FOLLOWING PRAYER:

Father, I can’t understand Your Word without Your grace, I acknowledge my weakness so Your power can reach perfection in me. Send Your Holy Spirit to remind, teach, and guide me to the Truth. May I share as soon as possible whatever You teach me. AMEN

SEXTO DIA                                                 LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO 

                                                                                        HECHOS 1:1-11

Este pasaje empieza con Lucas hablándole al oficial Romano Ilamado Teófilo. Lucas se estaba refiriendo a que el trabajo de Jesús continúa en los Hechos de los Apóstoles por del poder del Espíritu Santo.

Los Hechos son Ilamados por muchos, el quinto Evangelio ya que habla acerca de las vidas y los eventos de la nueva Iglesia. Jesús mostró a los Apóstoles después de Su sufrimiento y muerte, Sus muchas heridas. Les dió muchas pruebas convincentes de que estaba vivo. Les dijo que entonces recibirían al Espíritu Santo y recibirían poder y vendrían a ser Sus testigos por toda la tierra. Luego fue ascendido delante de sus propios ojos y una nube lo cubrió de su vista.

Hoy, El todavía está vivo en el Poder que vive dentro de Su Iglesia y dentro de tí como miembro de la comunidad de Sus discípulos. Tú has venido a ser un Templo de ese Poder debido a tu Bautizmo y Confirmación. El Poder que partió el Mar Rojo para Moisés vive dentro de tí. El Poder que bautizó a Jesús en el Río Jordán vive dentro de tí. El esta vivo y vive en tí, esperando ser dado gratuitamente al que sufre, al que está perdido, al enfermo, al que está solo, al cautivo por todos los contines de la tierra.

 

EFESIOS 1:17-23 

                En este pasaje San Pablo ora y dá gracias por los dones que han sido dados a los creyentes. Hoy se nos recuerda a nosotros dar gracias a Dios por los dones de sabiduría y conocimiento que están a nuestra disposición. Crecemos en sabiduría y conocimiento a traves de la oración, las escrituras, los sacramentos y las enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica. A ésto le sigue un órden de disciplina y humildad.

Nuestra esperanza para el futúro no es un sentimiento ambiguo, por lo contrario, es una completa seguridad de la victoria a traves del poder del Espíritu Santo y en el nombre de Jesuscristo. Vemos a muchos por todos lados temiendo un desastre nuclear, una desintegración de las computadoras y un colapso de la moral. Debemos recordar siempre que pertenecemos al Dios del Universo, quien resucitó a Jesucristo de entre los muertos. El gran poder de Dios está a nuestra disposición para ayudarnos hoy a traves del Espiritu Santo en la comunidad de fe. Las Escrituras nos dicen que con Dios nada es imposible (Filipenses 4:13). Pablo nos dice en la escritura, que no tenemos que temerle a nada ni a nadie pues nada puede separarnos de Dios y de Su amor (Romanos 8:31-39).

Cuando hablamos de la plenitud de la Iglesia Católica, estamos hablando sobre Cristo colmando a la Iglesia con dones y bendiciones. La Iglesia es en sí misma la expresión total de Cristo quien es El Mismo, la plenitud de Dios (Efesios 3:19). La imágen del cuerpo representa la unidad de la Iglesia. No debemos pretender trabajar, servir o dar adoración por nuestra propia cuenta. En el Cuerpo de Cristo no hay “Llaneros Solitarios.” Cada uno de nosotros está involucrado con todos los demas al ir trabajando por Dios en la tierra.

 

LUCAS 24:46-53

                Celebramos en éste día especial de la Iglesia, la Ascensión del Señor. Esto sucedió cuando Jesús fué llevado al cielo y sentado a la derecha de Dios.

A través de los siglos muchos creyentes, vencidos, por estar conscientes de sus propios pecados han encontrado en las palabras del pasaje de hoy un fuerte rayo de esperanza. Jesús abrió sus mentes para entender las escrituras. El Espíritu Santo hace lo mismo en nuestras vidas cuando estudiamos la Santa Palabra de Dios (testimonio escrito) y la Sagrada tradición (testimonio oral), especialmente como se presenta en el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica.

El mensaje de las buenas nuevas para el mundo entero hoy en día es que Jesús murió para rescatar el alma de cada persona viva. El tiene sed de tí. Está esperando que te confieses, te arrepientas y recibas Su misericordia y perdón. El confesar nuestro pecado es estar de acuerdo con Dios en que El tiene la razón de declarar que lo que hemos hecho es pecaminoso y estuvimos equivocados. El abandonar ese pecado es arrepentirse o cambiar, es darle la espalda al pecado y regresar a Dios a traves del poder del Espiritu Santo. Entonces podemos confiar en que El nos perdonará y nos hará puros otra vez.

El les dijo a Sus discípulos que ya eran testigos de Su misericordia y perdón. Les promete mandarles lo que Su Padre ha prometido, y era el regalo del Espíritu Santo. Su promesa fué revelada a los discípulos en el cuarto de arriba (Hechos 1:8) y ese mismo Espíritu Santo es el que reside en tu Templo. Tu cuerpo es el Templo del Espíritu Santo (1 Corintios 6:19) y tú estás para atestiguar hasta a los confines de la tierra con el mismo poder que tenían los discípulos.

La presencia física de Jesús se fué de los discípulos cuando levantó Sus manos, los bendijo y fue elevado al Cielo (Hechos 1:9). Tú recibes esa bendición cada vez que vas a Misa. Ellos se postraron con reverencia y regresaron a Jerusalén llenos de alegría. Ahí se les encontraba en el templo hablando constantemente las alabanzas de Dios.

 

Aplicación

La primera lectura nos dice que los Apóstoles estaban mirando, Jesús fue levantado y dijo, “recibirán poder cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre ustedes”. En la segunda lectura Dios sentó a Jesús a su derecha en los cielos y lo dió a la Iglesia como cabeza sobre todas las cosas; y en el Evangelio se nos dice que el Mensaje de las Buenas Nuevas es que Jesús murió para rescatar las almas de todo el mundo.

Esta semana vamos a ver a alguien de nuestra familia, nuestra comunidad o nuestra parroquia hagamos oración con éllos y proclamémosles las Buenas Nuevas de que Jesús está vivo. Arrepiéntete de lo malo que hayas hecho deja la acción pecaminosa y regresa a Dios. Recibe el Sacramento de la Reconciliación y la Sagrada Eucaristía con frecuencia y ésto te dará la gracia necesaria para que vivas tu vida por Cristo.

SIXTH DAY                          READ ALL OF THE COMMENTARY

ACTS 1:1-11

This passage begins with Luke addressing the Roman official called Theophilus. Luke was implying that Jesus’ work continues in Acts through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts is called by many the fifth Gospel in that it tells about the lives and events of the new Church. Jesus showed the Apostles after His suffering and death His many wounds. He gave them many convincing proofs that He was alive. He told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the gift that His Father had promised them. He told them that they would then receive the Holy Spirit and they would receive power and become His witnesses to the ends of the earth. He then was taken up before their very eyes and a cloud hid Him from their sight.

Today, He is still alive in the Power that lives within His Church and within you as a member of the community of His disciples. You have become a Temple of that Power by your Baptism and Confirmation. The Power that split the Red Sea for Moses lives within you. The Power that impregnated Mary with Jesus lives within you. The Power that baptized Jesus in the Jordan River lives within you. The Power that raised Jesus from the dead lives within you. He is alive and He liv es in you waiting to be given freely to the hurt, the lost, the sick, the lonely, the captive throughout the ends of the earth.

 

EPHESIANS 1:17-23

In this passage St. Paul is praying and giving thanks for the gifts that have been given to the believers. We today are reminded to thank God for the gifts of wisdom and knowledge that are available to us today.   We grow in wisdom and knowledge through prayer, scripture, sacraments and Catholic Church teaching. This follows an order of discipline and humility.

Our hope for the future is not an ambiguous feeling, on the contrary, it is a complete assurance of victory through the power of the Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus Christ. We see many on all sides fearing nuclear disaster, computer meltdown and the collapse of morals. We must always remember we belong to the God of the Universe, who raised Jesus Christ from the dead. God’s great power is available to help us today through the Holy Spirit in the community of faith. Scripture tells us that with God nothing is impossible (Philippians 4:13). Paul tells us in scripture that we do not have to fear anything or anyone because nothing can separate us from God and His love (Romans 8:31-39).

When we talk about the fullness of the Catholic Church, we are talking about Christ filling the Church with gifts and blessings. The Church itself is the full expression of Christ who Himself is the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19). The image of the body shows the Church’s unity. We should not attempt to work, serve or worship on our own. There are no Lone Rangers in the Body of Christ. Each one of us is involved with all the others as we go about doing God’s work on earth.

 

 

LUKE 24:46-53

We celebrate on this special feast day of the Church the Ascension of the Lord. This is the time when Jesus was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

Over the centuries many believers overcome by the awareness of their own sins have found the words of today’s passage a strong ray of hope. Jesus opened up their minds to understand the scriptures. The Holy Spirit does this in our lives today when we study God’s Holy Word (written testimony) and Sacred Tradition (oral testimony), especially as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The message of good news for the whole world today is that Jesus died to ransom the soul of every living person. He thirsts for you. He is waiting for you to confess, to repent, and to receive His mercy and forgiveness. To confess our sin is to agree with God that He is right to declare that what we have done is sinful and we are wrong. To abandon that sin is to repent or change, which is to turn away from sin and turn back to God, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Then we can trust in Him to forgive us and make us whole again. He told His disciples that they were already witnesses to His mercy and forgiveness. He promises to send them what His Father has promised, and that was the gift of the Holy Spirit. His promise was revealed to the disciples in the upper room (Acts 1:8) and that Holy Spirit is the same Spirit that resides in your Temple. Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and you are to witness to the ends of the earth with the same power as the disciples.

Jesus physical presence left the disciples when He lifted up His hands, blessed them and was taken up into Heaven (Acts 1:9). You receive this blessing each time you attend Mass. They fell down to do him reverence, then returned to Jerusalem filled with joy. There they were to be found in the temple constantly speaking the praises of God.

 

Application

The first reading tells us as the Apostles were looking on, Jesus was lifted up and says, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you”. In the second reading God seated Jesus at His right hand in the heavens and gave Him as head over all things to the Church, and in the Gospel, we are told that the Message of Good News is that Jesus died to ransom the souls of the whole world.

This week let us go to someone in our family, our community or our parish, to pray with them and to proclaim the Good News to them that Jesus is alive. Repent of any wrongdoing by stopping the sinful action and turning back to God. Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist frequently and this will give you the grace needed in order for you to live your life for Christ.

                           ACTS 15:1-2, 22-29 

     Christianity would have become nothing other than a sect of Jews if the condition that new Christians had to be circumcised first was upheld. There were certain Jews who could never forget their positions as the chosen people. They were willing to accept Gentiles into the church provided they were circumcised first. Paul and Barnabas argued strongly against this attitude and a violent collision seemed inevitable.  

     An appeal was made to Jerusalem, the headquarters of the church, for a ruling. The principle at stake was quite simple. Was the gift of God for the chosen few or for the entire world? Was the gift of God a privilege or a responsibility? Certain Pharisees who had become Christian insisted that all converts must be circumcised and keep the Mosaic law.  

     The Mosaic law of Moses stated that on the eighth day the flesh of a male child’s foreskin shall be circumcised (Leviticus 12:3). This was submitting of one’s flesh to the covenant that originated between God and Abraham (Gen. 17:14). Peter stood up to the apostles and elders and told them that the new covenant is fulfilled by believing the word of the Gospel.  

     God who knows the heart bore witness to them giving the Gentiles the Holy Spirit, just as he also did to us. This was a circumcision of faith, a cutting off of one’s pride and submitting to the will of the Lord. Peter told them that they were saved through the Grace of the Lord Jesus and so also were the Gentiles saved the same way.    

     The church leaders stated that the men who disturbed the brothers were not given instruction, or authority, to do what they did. The church leaders, inspired by the Holy Spirit, decided to send authorized representatives with Paul and Barnabas. They did not want to lay upon them a greater burden than the essentials which are: they shall abstain from things sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals, and from illicit sexual union.

   Today we still can look to the essentials for guidance for our daily living. We are not to sacrifice ourselves to idols such as jobs, power, sex, or money. We are called to stop eating and drinking ourselves into gluttony and sickness. We are called to be chaste in our actions as well as in our thoughts. We must turn away from illicit sexual union such as homosexuality, fornication, pornography, adultery, pre-marital sex, etc.  

     The controversy about keeping the law is still with us today. There still exists divisions between believers and church authorities. The authoritative teachings of the church are meant to protect the people as well as to preserve the true deposit of faith.

 

                   REVELATION 21:10-14, 22-23 

     John draws much of his imagery from Isaiah Chapter 65:17-24. In this chapter a new heaven is created, things of the past are not remembered, and there is rejoicing and no sadness or pain. John is not concerned about interspace travel or geophysics. Heaven exists because of the moral relationship between God and man.  

     God has taken the initiative and is the cause of the new order or as we call it the “New Jerusalem” or Heaven. God began by walking with man in the garden of paradise. He sought to dwell near man in the ark and the temple. He made man the holy of holies through his Incarnation. But these former things all passed away when he begins to dwell with them in the immediate personal intimacy of the “New Jerusalem.” John has, with much phraseology and repetition, attempted to convey the incomparable beauty of heaven through the use of earthly descriptions.  

     The radiance of Christ in his eternal home is so dazzling that the lights of the galaxy are not needed. The holy of holies was a cube twenty cubits high, wide, and deep. The cities of Babylon and Nineveh were square. Can you imagine a city as high as it is wide and long. One side would extend from Boston to Chicago (1500 miles). A fence 216′ high would hardly seem proportional around this gigantic cube of the heavenly city. We can see that earthly details pale when matched against the concept of spiritual symbolism. The author’s main intent is to convey that it is the Divine Presence, radiant and enlivening, that transforms the holy Jerusalem into purest splendor. God began with Paradise. John ends his portrayal of the celestial city with details borrowed from the paradise story. We might all picture ourselves as believers.

 

                         JOHN 14:23-29  

     Before his passion and death, Jesus spoke words of comfort, love and obedience to his disciples. These words brought a sense of serenity and helped them to not be afraid. Jesus promised to provide for them by leaving with them “the Counselor,” “The Holy Spirit.” Jesus told them that the Father would send them the Holy Spirit in his name. He told them that the Holy Spirit would teach them all things and help them to remember all that he taught them (John 14:26). We have been made by faith, through Gods action in the sacrament of Baptism, temples of the Holy Spirit.  

     Today, living a life conforming to the prompting of the Holy Spirit is not easy. We have so many distractions in our every day living, that only the Holy Spirit could empower us to remember with clarity the obedience that’s needed to walk the Christian walk. We need only to look around us and we can see very easily that unless we control our selfish desires and concerns by submitting them to the word of the Lord, they run wild, quickly overcoming any desire to know and experience God’s love.  

     We can’t split our desires evenly between God and the world; we must first seek the kingdom of God (Mt 6:33). We need to ask the Holy Spirit to teach us more about the healing, saving love of Jesus and the Kingdom of God. Pray that you will be open to receive the prompting of the Holy Spirit and to follow and experience the incredible love of Jesus.                

 

Application 

   The first reading tells us that the gift of God was not for a chosen few, but for the entire world. The second reading reveals that Heaven exists because of the moral relationship between God and man. The Gospel shows us that the power to walk the Christian walk can only come from the Holy Spirit. 

   This week, show those around you at work, at home or in school that God’s gift to you has brought you freedom of choice. Choose to love your neighbors, family and friends as yourself. With the power of the Holy Spirit, you can also choose to love your enemies. We can only do this when we seek his kingship first and then everything else is added (Mt 6:33). Remember, the Holy Spirit will teach you in all things (John 14:26).

SEXTO DIA                                                 LEE TODO EL COMENTARIO 

                                                                                   HECHOS 5:1-2, 22-29 

La Cristiandad no sería más que una secta de los Judíos si la condición de que los nuevos Cristianos debían ser circuncidados hubiera permanecido. Algunos Judíos no podían olvidar su posición de pueblo escogido. Estaban dispuestos a aceptar a los Gentiles en la iglesia siempre y cuando primero que nada fueran circuncidados. Pablo y Bernabé discutieron fuertemente esta actitud y un choque violento era inevitable.

Se suplicó a Jerusalén, a la matriz de la iglesia por una regla. El principio en cuestión era muy simple; ¿Era el don de Dios para unos cuantos escogidos o para todo el mundo? ¿Era el don de Dios un privilegio o una responsabilidad? Algunos Fariseos que se habían vuelto Cristianos insistían en que todos los convertidos debían ser circuncidados y debían guardar la ley Mosaica.

La ley Mosaica (de Moisés) decía que en el octavo día la carne del prepucio del niño varón debía ser circuncidado (Levítico 12:13). Esto era someter su propia carne al pacto que se originó entre Dios y Abraham (Génesis 17:14). Pedro se erigió ante los apóstoles y ancianos y les dijo que el nuevo pacto se cumple creyendo en la palabra del Evangelio.

Dios, quien conoce el corazón lo atestiguó dando el Spíritu Santo a los Gentiles, así como lo ha hecho para nosotros. Esta fue una circuncisión de fe, un corte de tajo al orgullo de uno y una sumisión a la voluntad del Señor. Pedro les dijo que ellos estaban salvados a traves de la gracia del Señor y que también lo estaban los Gentiles.

Los líderes de la iglesia dijeron que los hombres que confundieron a los hermanos no tenían instrucción ni autoridad para hacerlo. Los líderes de la iglesia inspirados por el Espíritu Santo decidieron mandar representantes autorizados con Pablo y Bernabé. No querían sobrecargarlos con algo más pesado que lo esencial, o sea: se debían abstener de cosas sacrificadas a ídolos, de sangre, de carne de animales estrangulados y de uniones sexuales ilícitas.

Hoy en día todavía podemos ver a lo esencial como guía para nuestra vida diaria. No debemos sacrificarnos a nosotros mismos por ídolos como el trabajo, el poder, el sexo o el dinero. Estamos llamados a dejar de comer y beber al extremo de la glotonería y ponernos enfermos. Estamos llamados a ser castos en nuestras acciones tanto como en nuestros pensamientos. Debemos evitar la unión sexual ilícita tal como la homosexualidad, la fornicación, la pornografia, el adulterio, el sexo antes del matrimonio, etc.

La controversia acerca de guardar la ley existe todavía hoy en día. Todavía hay división entre creyentes y autoridades de la iglesia. Le enseñanza autoritaria de la iglesia está hecha para proteger a la gente tanto como para preservar el verdadero depósito de la fe.

 

 

APOCALIPSIS 21:10-14, 22-23 

Mucho de la visión de Juan viene del capítulo 65:17-24 de Isaías. En este capítulo es creado un cielo nuevo, las cosas del pasado ya no se recuerdan, todo es alegría y no hay tristeza ni dolor. Juan no se preocupa del viaje interespacial o de la geofísica. El cielo existe debido a la relación moral entre Dios y el hombre.

Dios ha tomado la iniciativa y es la causa del nuevo orden o como se le llama la “Nueva Jerusalén o Cielo.” Dios empezó caminando con el hombre en el jardín del paraíso. El buscó habitar cerca del hombre en el Arca o en el Templo. El hizo al hombre el Santo de los Santos a traves de su Encarnación. Pero estas cosas pasadas se terminaron cuando El empieza a habitar con ellos en la intimidad inmediata y personal de la “Nueva Jerusalén.” Juan intentó usando muchas frases y repeticiones transmitir la incomparable belleza del cielo usando descripciones terrenales.

La radiancia de Cristo en su morada eterna es tan deslumbrante que las luces de la Galaxia no son ni necesarias. La Nueva Jerusalén o Cielo era un cubo de doce mil estadios de alto, ancho y profundidad. Las ciudades de Babilonia y Nínive eran cuadradas. Puedes imaginar una ciudad tan alta como su anchura y su largo. Un lado se extendería desde Boston hasta Chicago (1500 millas). Una barda de 216 pulgadas de alto no sería proporcional alrededor de este cubo gigantesco de la ciudad celestial. Podemos ver que los detalles terrenales palidecen cuando se comparan contra el concepto de simbolismo espiritual. El objetivo principal del autor es transmitir que es la Divina Presencia, radiante y animada la que transforma la santa Jerusalén en esplendor puro. Dios empezó con el Paraíso. Juan termina su descripción de la ciudad celestial con detalles prestados de la historia del paraíso. Imaginémonos a nosotros mismos como creyentes.

 

JUAN 14:23-29

Antes de su pasión y muerte, Jesús habló a sus discípulos palabras de consuelo, amor y obediencia. Estas palabras trajeron un sentido de serenidad y los ayudó a no tener miedo. Jesús prometió socorrerlos dejándoles al “Consejero,” “El Espíritu Santo.” Jesús les dijo que el Padre les enviaría al Espíritu Santo en Su nombre. Les dijo que el Espíritu Santo les enseñaría todos las cosas y les ayudaría a recordar todo lo que El les había enseñado (Juan 14:26). Hemos sido hechos templos del Espíritu Santo mediante la fe a traves de la acción de Dios en el sacramento del Bautizmo.

No es fácil hoy en día vivir una vida de acuerdo con los dictados del Espíritu Santo. Tenemos tantas distracciones en nuestro vivir diario que solo el Espíritu Santo podrá capacitarnos para recordar con claridad la obediencia que se necesita para caminar el camino Cristiano. Solo necesitamos ver a nuestro alderredor y nos daremos cuenta fácilmente de que a menos de que controlemos nuestros deseos egoístas y preocupaciones sometiéndolos a la Palabra de Dios, éstos se desbocarán, sobreponiéndose rápidamente a cualquier deseo de conocer y experimentar el amor de Dios.

No podemos dividir nuestros deseos de modo parejo entre Dios y el mundo, debemos buscar primero el reino de Dios (Mateo 6:33). Necesitamos pedirle al Espíritu Santo que nos enseñe más acerca del amor sanador y salvador de Jesús y del Reino de Dios. Has oración para que te abras para recibir los dictados del Espíritu Santo y sigas y sientas el increíble amor de Jesús.

 

 

Aplicación 

La primera lectura nos dice que el don de Dios no fue para unos cuantos escogidos sino para todo el mundo. La segunda lectura revela que el Cielo existe debido a la relación moral entre Dios y el hombre. El Evangelio muestra que el poder caminar el camino Cristiano únicamente es posible cuando viene por medio del Espíritu Santo.

Esta semana, demuestra a los que te rodean en el trabajo, la casa o la escuela que el don de Dios te ha traido la libertad de escoger. Escoger amar a tu prójimo, tu familia y amigos así como a tí mismo. Con el poder del Espíritu Santo puedes también escoger amar a tus enemigos. Eso solo lo podremos hacer si buscamos Su reino primero y todo lo demás será por añadidura (Mateo 6:33). Recuerda, que el Espíritu Santo te enseñará todas las cosas (Juan 14:26).
